Effective Resolution of Complex Issues

My goal is always to help clients achieve a successful transition from one phase of their life to another — to move towards a successful, independent, and secure future.

I understand the financial and emotional complexities of divorce. My background is in family law and business law. While I work with clients with all kinds of issues, I have a particular focus on financial matters in divorces. If there are significant assets or debts, or if there is a need for support, then you need sophisticated help in achieving the best plan for your financial future. If you own a business there are complex issues not only related to the valuation of the business interests, but of handling the division of the community assets in a way that has the least negative impact on the future of the business, which ultimately benefits both spouses.

Practicing family law is really all about communication. That communication involves at various times listening, discussing, and advocating. I listen to my clients so I can hear what is most important to them and explore with them their long range needs and goals. With my clients I discuss the pros and cons of what they hope to achieve, and advise them regarding alternatives that may best serve their long-range interests. Finally I advocate for my client to the other side and to the court. The ability to communicate a client’s goals and needs to not only be heard — but to be truly understood — is essential to obtaining a resolution that meets the client’s needs.

I enjoy working with clients who are willing to face the emotional and financial complexities of a divorce; who will not use the court system to abuse an opposing party; who recognize that when there are children, your spouse is still the other parent of your children. It is important that you not lose sight of your long range goals, and understand that there may be various ways to attain those goals — sometimes going to court is the best approach, and sometimes working with the other party, as opposed to against, is best.

There are few issues that are more difficult or life altering than the emotional and financial issues that people confront in family law cases. However, if the case is handled effectively, the outcome will allow the client to successfully transition to the next phase of life. With my extensive experience and knowledge I work to help my clients achieve that successful transition.
